I remember back when hurricane Andrew hit, it wasn't so much the storm that was bad (for me) it was the aftermath. Well the same thing again for hurricane Irma. The heat that follows a hurricane is unreal!
This time it was a totally different experience than any before. We decided a few years ago to invest in impact windows and it sure did pay off. It felt weird not to be all boarded up. Not seeing whats happening around you, gives you this false sense of security. I do admit, I still wanted one room boarded but my husband reassured me that it as going to be ok.
Watching the storm kept me, my family and friends entertained for hours. It was like watching the fireworks on Fourth of July. There was a lot of ooohs and aahhhs and a few other words that don't need to be repeated. Having everyone all together during the storm with no power is the best family time one can get. The old games got taken out of the closet dusted off and played well into the night. There was air mattresses set up and couches made, it was one big slumber party. When all your kids are adults, these moments just don't happen any more. I was happy to have them all together.
The next day is when reality hits. I am thankful we all are ok and the house had no damage. The yard, well its a mess like everyone else"s, but that can be fixed.
